Christian Louboutin's Cinderella Glass Slipper

My inner Disney princess is super excited right now. This fall, Walt Disney will be re-releasing its classic Cinderella on DVD and Blu-ray. In celebration of the re-release, Christian Louboutin will be designing his interpretation of the infamous glass slipper with the reveal in June 2012. Louboutin told WWD, "I have been so lucky to have crossed paths with Cinderella, an icon who is so emblematic to the shoe world as well as the dream world".

The slipper will most likely have a much higher heel than Cinderella's. Louboutin will make every woman's childhood princess dreams come true. If I had a fairy godmother I would wish for the glamorous elegant Louboutin glass slipper, the ability for my feet not to feel pain, and those cute little dancing mice. I'm certainly looking forward to June, are you?

Are you curious to see Louboutin's glass slipper?
Did you ever dream of being a Disney princess?
(I always wanted to be Jasmine or Belle)

Music In My Life

I'm a music lover and hold a special place in my heart for Jazz. I've always loved big band swing but my ears were graciously opened to more wonderful genres of Jazz, after taking a History of Jazz college course.

Whenever I need to relax or have the urge to enjoy true music and genius talent (Okay, yes, that's a jab to many of today's artists), I'll play some old jazz videos. I want to share a few of my current favorite songs. These songs have been played so much that I'm pretty sure the apartment walls could even sing along, having mesmerize every word and note.

There's nothing better than closing your eyes and letting your imagination run wild while listening to Miles Davis or Charlie Parker (The Bird). When I want to feel true raw emotion, my speakers pour out Billie Holiday. When I need a boost of energy and just want to feel alive, I listen and dance to big band.

Let me know if you have a favorite Jazz musician or singer
Enjoy!

Chalk Your Hair Not The Pavement

I was reading my Glamour magazine and I came across a hair trend called Hair Chalking. It's a temporary way to add color to your hair by using soft chalk. I've seen inspirational photos all over the interest and I would love to give it a try! I dislike highlights and dying my hair because I hate the permanent-ness of it all but I may have found a solution. The chalks are affordable and be found in any arts and craft store and the process is simple as pie.

How To
  • Wet your hair (Blondes: Do NOT wet hair or it'll become harder to wash out; Redheads: try process WITHOUT water first, if the color isn't rich enough, add a little water depending on how dark your hair is)
  • Put on a robe or an old t-shirt and lay a sheet on the floor to catch dust particles
  • Rub soft pastel chalk on your hair while twisting the strands (Brunettes: before you rub the chalk, mist a little water onto your hair, again, to help double the pigment)
  • Brush out excess powder after chalking each hair piece
  • Use a heating element to lock in the color
  • Placing your hair in a up-do is ideal because you'll get less chalk dusk on your clothes
Wash Out
  • Brush your hair with a soft brush to get out as much color as possible
  • Use a clarifying shampoo to get rid of the left over pigment and the safe natural binder used in chalk, made from tree sap (might take 2 washes to completely erase the color)
  • After the shampoo, moisturize your hair with a conditioning treatment

Sunglasses Are A Girl's Best Friend

I love sunglasses. They shield your eyes from the sun's harmful rays, hide tired red hangover peepers, and express your fun wonderful personality. There are so many different styles, shapes, and colors that there is bound to be at least one pair that will be perfect for you. I personally love the vintage cat-eyed shades in different colors and fun heart shaped glasses. Unfortunately, I already wear glasses so I had to get prescription sunglasses which meant I can't enjoy the cheap cute pairs that you can buy and wear off the rack. The prescription sunglasses I have now are Ray-Ban's New Wayfarer cat eyed inspired, in cream.

Instagram Lovin'

I know I'm late but I finally downloaded myself an Instagram app. I'm having a blast playing around with the different settings and options. My account name is @retrobelle24 and I hope you'll follow me! If you're on Instagram, share your account name, in the comment section below, and I'll follow you back. Here are some photos I took from today's walk at the park. The weather was gorgeous and I was thrilled to be able to wear my all time favorite Target sun dress and new Forever 21 cream orange cardigan.

Are you obsessed with Instagram or does another photo edit app have your heart?

Ciate Caviar Manicure

Sephora has just announced a new product called the Ciate Caviar Manicure, $25. It's a kit  that comes with one .45oz.  nail polish and one .47oz caviar beads, a funnel, and a tray. The polish color options are: Strawberry Milkshake (light pink) with Rainbow beads, Snow Virgin (white), with Mother of Pearl beads or Ghetto Fabulous (black) combined Black Pearls beads.  You apply the bead-free polish on first and then while the paint is still wet, apply the beads, let set for at least 15 minutes. The pearlescent beads create a 3D effect and the manicure lasts for 48 hours.

The beads remind me of  the sprinkles that you use for ice cream sundaes or little sugar balls used to decorate cakes. I really want the Strawberry Milkshake and Rainbow beads. I wish I was more skilled with nail art. They always end up looking like my baby niece did them. But this nail art might be simplistic enough even for me and I'll look more artisic and cooler than I really am :) If you're feeling bold and looking to spice things up, click here. Let me me how it turned out for you, send me a picture through twitter!

How To Apply

 DIY

For us gals on a budget and can't justify spending $25 on Sephora's kit, I did some digging around for a more affordable "knock-off"option. I came across Martha Steward's Micro beads 12 pack of various colors for $12.73 through Sears (other stores like Joann sells the same beads for almost TWICE as much). You can also run to your local grocery store and pick up some edible beads used for baking, still works and taste yummy! A tip: apply a thin layer of top coat along the tip of the nail to create a seal.

Oh JohnnyWhizzBang!

I'm back and it feels sooo good! I've been on a week long hiatus from VintageDanielle to concentrate on a  psychology paper and other projects. It's great to be writing for pleasure rather than for grade.

On a different note, it's pretty obvious that I love all things vintage and retro. It's been my belief and of my friends' and family's that I was born in the wrong era or perhaps I was living back in the 1930-70s (Reincarnation?). I bring this up because one of my good twitter friends is the creator of the cute, vintage, and fun website, JohnnyWhizzBang. It's a nostalgic home for retro vintage pop culture, fashion, history, stories, and photographs. Johnny just redesigned the website and it looks wonderful! Honestly, whenever I need a vintage pick-me-up I visit here. It's nice to glace at the clothing, pictures, listen to music, and then to internally wish that I had a time traveler (how cool would that be?!?).

The online shop offer cute tops, full skirts, and accessories. I'm thinking of ordering the Quirky Zoo skirt. I could totally see myself wearing in during the summer time and monkeying around. Yeah a cheesy pun but I couldn't help myself :)

When you get a chance, I hope you'll visit my friend's site and see for yourself how much fun it is and soon you'll be wishing you had a time machine.

Hopping Down The Bunny Trail

Easter's on it's way! Sunday April 8 is Easter. Although my family doesn't go all out for this holiday we still try to gather around and enjoy a nice family dinner. When I think of Easter, I picture vintage inspired clothing, pastel colors like mint and pink, floral patterns, cardigans, dresses, and kitten heels.

Here are some fabulous Spring and Easter inspired outfits from ASOS Fashion Finder. Aren't they sweet, cute, and adorable?
